Croissant cravings.

Right now I'm working on my literature review. Well, I should be.

Instead I am craving croissants. Warm, soft and fluffy. That's how I like them. No ham and cheese. Not cut open and shoved with butter. Just the plain croissant.

Although I could be tempted by this croissant and nutella combo. Yummm...

I'm going to go mad if I don't eat one today.

I really will.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

This is, hands down, no questions asked, my favourite film. And unfortunately one that not many people know about. My grandma introduced it to me as her favourite about five years ago now. Whenever I'm feeling down, this is the movie that will instantly cheer me up.

Millie (Julie Andrews) is a Modern. Determined to marry her boss, she has tossed her cares and curls away in 1922 New York. She quickly befriends Miss Dorothy (Mary Tyler Moore), a wealthy girl who is all alone in the world hoping to become an actress.

They meet Jimmy (James Fox) at the friendship dance where he whips out some wicked moves in the Tapeoka. This bit alone is why I love the movie so much :) Video here.

And although Millie is wooed by Jimmy, she is still determined to marry her boss. Whoever that may be. After all, Jimmy only works with paperclips.

Millie hits the jackpot in her search for the perfect boss/husband: Trevor Graydon (John Gavin).

Before being whisked off to a weekend away with Jimmy and Miss Dorothy to meet Muzzy (Carol Channing) and love advice.

No story is complete without The Bad Guy. Meet Mrs. Meers (Beatrice Lillie). Sad to be all alone in the world, isn't it?

Chapel Street

The other day I was forced to go into uni for some small and insignificant, and truly quite annoying reason. So I tried to make the day a bit better and worthwhile by combining my uni trip with an adventure to Chapel Street and visit some op shops I always eye off when we go to the Astor.

I think I prefer my local op shops; there's a better mix of junk and great finds. These ones were both more expensive than usual, lacked anything of note and were such a mess it was bit of a turn off.

BUT! I did find this lovely portrait in a shop called "Fat Helens". Fantastic shop by the way!

The lady behind the counter commented that she looked like she was exactly my style. What a compliment! :) Not sure what the little triangle symbol means though - any ideas?

And then finally, as I was giving up all hope, I stumbled across this dress in the very last op shop, for a whopping $7!

I love the colours and the pattern. Someone else has obviously altered it or "saved" it. I think they've done a good job :) Normally I hate that kind of thing, but this time, I'll let it slide.

The Painted Veil

This film is juicy. A thick story, beautiful beautiful scenery and gorgeous costumes (and lots of them).

The story is set in 1923-1925 China. It deals with the turbulent marriage of Walter (Edward Norton) and Kitty (Naomi Watts) with the back drop of a cholera epidemic and the beginnings of revolution.

It doesn't have a cheery bounce about it, but it is definitely quality. With love, history and beauty. Definitely worth checking out. If only for the extensive costume changes of Kitty (Naomi Watts).

My favourite costume is this one:

It only gets a minuscule moment of screentime, but it's so pretty! And so hard to get a shot of. It has lovely fragile flowing sleeves, baby blue fabric with a dainty floral pattern embroidered on.

Working out.

I'm trying to get myself into a healthy lifestyle. And it's tough. I've never been an exercise person. I've always had a sweet tooth and eaten as I've pleased.

I'm trying to eat more healthy food. I'm trying to fight any chocolate, ice cream, chips and any other junk food cravings. I think I'm doing pretty good so far.

I've hired out a pilates DVD from the library and given it a go. I have a voucher for eight gym classes at a nearby gym. I start Friday.

I hope it works.

Op shop addict.

Ever since I got my license, I've been op shopping like a mad woman. Half because I was searching for costumes for the dress up party, half because I can. And I'm loving it!

I've had some really fantastic finds, like my cute Wedgewood-esque teapot. Apologies for the poor pictures, I promise when I have more time I'll properly photograph my goodies. For now though, some teasers:

Dress addiction.

Ladies, I have a problem. A very serious problem.

I have a dress addiction.

I've just been cleaning up my wardrobe and counted 47 dress. A-huh. Completely and utterly ridiculous. Not to mention squishy!

I can tell most of the dresses are heartbroken to hear that summer in Melbourne is well and truly over. My dresses need to be worn! So I'm fixing myself a fashion challenge: to wear as many dresses as much as possible. Time to play with cardis, boots and tights again!
