Insane blogging.

Blogger is not letting me upload my own pictures. I've been trying to use other picture hosting sites to link my pictures from but finding them to be just as frustrating as Blogger.

It's driving me insane. Especially with so many posts planned and pretty pictures to keep them company. So we'll have to make do for now though, but I do apologise! I haven't forgotten my lovelies :)

Saving face.

Faces are wonderful things. I used to love drawing faces. Eyes especially.

I wonder how people become brave enough to post their faces with their blogs. I tried, I couldn't. I think I like my blog faceless. 'Outfit of the Day' posts could be wonderful fun, and I love them in blogs, but I just couldn't.

Stylish Blogger Awards

I feel so special! I've received three Stylish Blogger Award nominations! A big thank you to E, KittyCate and aelie! It's so strange to receive these nominations, because for me it seems as though my blog has gone from hardly anyone reading to 7 followers and award nominations overnight. So a huge huge thank you to everyone :)

So it is now my duty to share with you 7 facts that you may, or may not know about me and nominate 15 blogs I have recently discovered. I hope you enjoy :)

The Facts.

1. I'm still obsessed with Disney movies. I listen to Disney soundtracks. I re-watch the movies constantly. I'm dying to see Tangled. I'll be visiting ACMI's Disney 'Dreams Come True' exhibition with my Gran soon. I'm a Disney chick, through and through.

2. I'm constantly told I look like Laura Prepon. Or more precisely, Donna Pinciotti from That 70s Show. Apparently I act like her as well. I've been told this consistently from a million and one different people since 2000. I'm more than okay with that :)

3. I can't wait to be a grandma. I'm going to be a cool grandma too. And a cute fashionable one. One that bakes lots of cakes and scones when people come over, join weird and wonderful social clubs and the Red Hat Society. I'll spoil my grandkids and I'll never wear pale blue (which always seems to be the universal grandma colour).

4. I'm a terrible lover of reality tv. I love America's Next Top Model, The Hills and the like. My absolute favourite though? Survivor. Shhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone!

5. I've always wanted red curly hair. I'd die for naturally curly hair alone. Alas, my hair is naturally dead straight. And naturally mousy brown. At least people always say they think I have red hair, or that they always imagine me with red hair. That's a start I guess?

6. I'm nowhere near engaged, but I know that I want an ice cream cake for my wedding cake, my sisters will be my bridesmaids and hopefully a fairy floss machine :)

7. I, like so many others in the world, feel like I was born in the wrong era. But I'm not sure which era I belong. Maybe 1900s?

Yummy treats!

We all know Christmas is really all about the food. There's no denying it! I've been cooking away in the kitchen for the last couple of days making some yummies to be consumed. I'll be the first to admit that I am a lazy cook. I like things to be simple and yummy. Which is what everyone wants on Christmas, so I thought I'd share a couple of the recipes here :)

Chocolate Spiders

Everyone loves chocolate spiders! I always get demands for these, and it's great because they are sooooo easy to make.

Ingredients:

1 bag of Chang's Original Fried Noodles

1 block of milk chocolate

2 tabelspoons of peanut butter (I prefer crunchy)

Instructions:

1. Melt chocolate and peanut butter in microwave until it is smooth.

2. Give the mixture a quick stir to make sure everything is combined. Then add in the noodles.

3. Mix it up, give some of the noodles a smash. Make sure all noodles are covered in your peanut butter chocolatey goodness.

4. Use two forks to pull out bite-sized chunks of noodles and place on a tray covered with baking paper. If you want them to look extra spider-y, play a bit with the noodles using the forks until bits poke up all over the place.

5. Place in fridge for about an hour or so.

6. Lick the bowl.

"Primal Fererro Roche" or Nut Balls

Adapted from Food, Flora and Felines

I stumbled across this blog and immediately tried out this recipe (and doubled it without question!). It is positively delicious :) I have demands to make this one for two family Christmas celebrations, so my hands have been rolling this mixture into balls for a loooong time! I have adapted the recipe slightly, for my own tastes. They are a great nutty treat :)

Ingredients:

1cup mixed unsalted nuts

1cup hazelnuts

1cup sultanas

1/4cup of dessicated coconut + extra for coating

1 packet of dark choc chips

2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

1 1/2 cups of Nutella

Instructions:

1. Chop up the nuts in a blender. How chunky you leave your nuts is up to you, but I prefer mine reasonably fine.

2. Mix all the dry ingredients together.

3. Add in the Nutella and mix through. Although messy, it's easiest to get your hands into it to mix it up. That way you can really blend in the Nutella, rather than pushing around blobs of Nutella. I've also considered melting the Nutella a lil so it's runnier and easier to mix in. However, I have not yet tried this.

4. Roll the mixture into little balls and then cover with coconut.

5. Leave them in the fridge to solidify for about an hour.

Curtain

Just taking another glimpse at my favourite 100 Layer Cake blog, and spotted these lovely curtains. I love the colours used and the magic of it all. They perhaps look a little lost in the hugeness of the space used in the wedding. I'm trying to imagine them in a lounge room or bedroom. I imagine they'd look quite pretty :)

Dress like Modern Marie Antoinette

And so I've become obsessed with Marie Antoinette. Quite easy to do, with her amazing life story and gorgeous and dazzling fashions. I've been obsessing over her fashions particularly after coming across Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006). Such beautiful colours and dainty decorations. So, how can you imitate Marie's stunning style?

Skin

Marie Antoinette was famous for her beautiful glowing porcelain skin. Queens were often showered with compliments from those at court and this Queen was consistently and constantly complimented on her pale skin, delicate neck and hands. To replicate this you're going to have to moisturise up, baby! Water is also a god to clear and perfect skin. Add in some sunscreen for those sunny days and you should be well on your way :)

Make-up

You can further your pale Marie Antoinette complexion with a pale foundation base.

Add some warm pink candy rouge to the apples of your cheeks - women in the French court would cake on thick pots of red rouge on their cheeks as a symbol of their wealth. Many visitors to Versailles thought it was an awful fashion, so you mightn't feel the need to go all out on the rouge as they did back then!

A modern Marie Antoinette would most definitely play around with whatever make-up was available to her. Think false eyelashes, funky coloured mascara and jeweled eyeliners. Don't go too overboard- we don't want to look like Du Barry!

Use a lip stain instead of lip gloss or lipstick - we can't go losing our lips while we're eating our cake and sipping our champagne, can we dearies?

Hair

To disguise her ghastly high forehead (as it was thought, back in the day!), hairdresses pulled her hair up higher and higher. To get this height, try smashing your hair into a messy up do. Curling your hair beforehand, teasing it and hair spray will give you extra height without the need for a wig.

And/or, decorate your hair. Find pretty clips, fake flowers, head-bands, feathers, ribbons, birds, butterflies... anything that catches your eye and add them to your hair. Don't be afraid to grab these pretties from the Little Girl's section :)

Clothing

Colours: If you're wanting to imitate Sophia Coppola's Marie, stick to pastels. The colour palette of a simple box of macaroons intended to guide the colours used in the film. So stick to pale pinks, lavender, soft sky blues, buttercup yellows, mint green and lacey white. The deep reds, lush purples and blacks were reserved for Du Barry, the lady who 'is said to give pleasure to the King (Louis XV)'.

Style: You may wish to imitate the corsets and structured dresses through more fitted, almost 1950s style dresses that support the bosom and flair at the waist. It's a flattering shape that will suit any lady. Otherwise, find delicate white dresses that allude to the chemise that Marie Antoinette made wildly popular and fashionable.

Decorations: Lace, frills, buttons, sequins, beads, floral patterns, jewels. Anything and everything with that slightly darling almost whimsical girly feeling. If it makes you squeal with delight, it's probably a good find!

The eyes have it.

I've been seriously snooping about on blogs lately, and stumbled across this post in Do You Know April Rose . I loved this post for several reasons: (1) flowers in hair love, (2) the eye make-up and (3) those lips!

Isn't the make-up divine? Of course the model is blessed with beautiful big eyes and plump, berry-kissed lips. I can't wait to try out this look myself :)

I have an obsession. Yes, another one.

Weddings. Home-made heartfelt weddings. As seen on the 100 Layer Cake blog. They are all just such a feast for the eyes, with so many beautiful ideas for your own.

I'm not getting married any time soon, but that doesn't stop me from drooling! haha The best pages are the 'Real Weddings' stories. They'll leave you all warm and fuzzy inside :)

Meandering

Today has been a much needed restful day. The upcoming week is looking busy and bustling, and while that excites me, I do take delight in relaxing right now.

Besides cleaning out my wardrobe and scrubbing walls with sugar soap (marvelous stuff!), I've also been snooping about on the internet. I've become obsessed with having a peek at other people's blogs. I'll be adding a few more to my list tonight I think :)


The Happy Home Blog
An article in the Australia Home Beautiful magazine lead me to this lovely blog and home. The blog is filled with lovely crafty ideas to up-do your own home and is a great source of inspiration! I personally fail at working in neutrals - I'm a colourful girl in a colourful world, after all - but they always look forever elegant and glamourous :)

If you have plenty of time on your hands and adore period film costumes, then you might like to check out this website: Recycled Movie Costumes. True, there are costumes from more modern films as well, but they aren't as fascinating and stunning as the Tudor, Elizabethan, Georgian or Regency costumes. I love trying to guess which show I recognise the costumes from beforehand :)

Plus, it can help you find movies that are similar to others you love. I'm now on the hunt for DuBarry was a Lady (1943) after stumbling across this image in their gallery:
