Anniversary

Today is our anniversary. Our very first one :) I got a ring engraved for him, with the name of 'our song'. Not too obviously mushy and romantic to anyone else but us, but that's why it's our song and no one else's :)

Happy Anniversary Love :) Thank you for so much xoxo

2011

Favourite Moments of 2010

* 2010 New Years celebrations. I had never been to a proper NYE party, and this was it. Great fun and I shared my first kiss with my wonderful boyfriend :)
* Being a uni student at the beautiful Melbourne University. I loved simply walking around on campus with all the beautiful architecture and oak trees. I felt so knowledgeable just strutting around the place :)
* Australia Day. I'm not one to usually celebrate these things, but it ended up being a beautiful summer day spent having a lawn party. We played cricket, had a BBQ, listened to Triple J 100. It was lovely and probably one of my favourite memories of 2010.
* My huge cupcake party, which featured literally hundreds upon hundreds of cupcakes. Delicious!

I've done a lot of growing this year... Mostly thanks to my studies!

* Completing my Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary). It was an amazing amount of work. I had 24 assignments in one semester!
* My teaching rounds were fantastic. I learnt what kind of environment I would like to teach in, working with intelligent, entertaining and charming students. It was wonderful to see their faces light up when they understood something and great sharing a giggle with them.
* The moments I had realising "Yes! I this [teaching] is what I want to do!" Love that feeling :)
* Wonderful moments with my wonderful wonderful boyfriend :) He has been so supportive and caring and helpful this year. A year when I really needed someone like that :)
* This blog. I've enjoyed my more frequent posting of late, gaining followers (still oh so very exciting!) and sharing things with the blog world :)

New Years Resolutions

1. Continue expanding my blog. I hope to post more frequently and with more of my own stuff.
2. Get healthy. This includes eating and exercising. Hopefully.
3. Continue staying dedicated to my studies and being proactive about it all :) I see a bright future ahead, and I'm so happy :D

Happy New Year to all :) May 2011 bring you good luck and good fortune!

Crisp sheets

What is better than sleeping on clean, sun-warmed, crisp bedsheets?

...Especially when they look this good ;)

Sweet dreams lovelies!

That dress.

Ever find yourself having one of those terrible days when nothing seems to look right? Or you just feel off?

Every now and then, I find myself having one of those days. And it's those days that I reach for that dress.

That dress covers all the wrong lumps and bumps and highlights all the good things. It can easily be dressed up for a night out, or down as a simple summer dress. It's saved me an many an occasion. And, only $18 from the Tree of Life!

I'll be wearing it tonight to see in 2011. Still not sure what I'll be doing, but this dress will save me again tomorrow night :)

Gulliver's Travels

Last night, my boyfriend and I had a lovely movie date. While watching ad's for Gulliver's Travels (2010), we both confided in each other that despite our best efforts, we wanted to see the film. And I'm glad we did. It was thoroughly enjoyable :)

Gulliver's Travels (2010) is definitely one to check out this summer if you're after something fun and easy to watch. I particularly loved Emily Blunt and Jason Segel together. They just seemed to be really enjoying themselves :) Above and below are some pictures from my favourite scene of the movie between Princess Mary (Emily Blunt), Horatio (Jason Segel) and Gulliver (Jack Black).

As for the 3D question? I wouldn't bother with the extra bucks for 3D. We did see it in 3D, and there was nothing really note-worthy or extra-exciting about the 3D.

Here's a link to an interesting YouTube video which shows a little of the film and Blenheim Palace, where much of Gulliver's was filmed. It was also used in Young Victoria - so Miss emily Blunt must be feeling quite at home there these days!

Chrissy Joys

I hope everyone had a wonderful fun and delicious Christmas :) I know mine definitely was: three days of family feasts and festivities. Definitely looking forward to relaxing over the next few days with some of my Christmas goodies :)

Yep, Tudors Season 4 now eagerly awaits me. I also got Young Victoria and Beauty and the Beast on DVD. I'm watching Beauty and the Beast now, and the DVD quality is amazing compared to the good ol' VHS!

I also have some reading to do: Sex with a Queen by Eleanor Herman and what looks to be a yummy piece of fiction: The Empress of Ice Cream by Anthony Capella.

And yes, that is a teacup with King Henry VIII, with some of his wives and Wolsey (the other three wives and Cromwell are on the other side). My wonderful boyfriend found these teacups on the internet somewhere for me. Very lucky girl, I am :)

So I'm off to relax some more. Happy Holidays everyone!

My favourite memory of Christmas 2010 will be sitting in the dark of my room, with one earphone in my ear and the other in my boyfriend's and singing quietly along to our favourite songs playing at random on my ipod.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Christmas, filled with love :)

Yummy treats!

We all know Christmas is really all about the food. There's no denying it! I've been cooking away in the kitchen for the last couple of days making some yummies to be consumed. I'll be the first to admit that I am a lazy cook. I like things to be simple and yummy. Which is what everyone wants on Christmas, so I thought I'd share a couple of the recipes here :)
***

Chocolate Spiders
Everyone loves chocolate spiders! I always get demands for these, and it's great because they are sooooo easy to make.

Ingredients:
1 block of milk chocolate
2 tabelspoons of peanut butter (I prefer crunchy)

Instructions:
1. Melt chocolate and peanut butter in microwave until it is smooth.
2. Give the mixture a quick stir to make sure everything is combined. Then add in the noodles.
3. Mix it up, give some of the noodles a smash. Make sure all noodles are covered in your peanut butter chocolatey goodness.
4. Use two forks to pull out bite-sized chunks of noodles and place on a tray covered with baking paper. If you want them to look extra spider-y, play a bit with the noodles using the forks until bits poke up all over the place.
5. Place in fridge for about an hour or so.
6. Lick the bowl.

"Primal Fererro Roche" or Nut Balls

I stumbled across this blog and immediately tried out this recipe (and doubled it without question!). It is positively delicious :) I have demands to make this one for two family Christmas celebrations, so my hands have been rolling this mixture into balls for a loooong time! I have adapted the recipe slightly, for my own tastes. They are a great nutty treat :)

Ingredients:
1cup mixed unsalted nuts
1cup hazelnuts
1cup sultanas
1/4cup of dessicated coconut + extra for coating
1 packet of dark choc chips
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups of Nutella

Instructions:
1. Chop up the nuts in a blender. How chunky you leave your nuts is up to you, but I prefer mine reasonably fine.
2. Mix all the dry ingredients together.
3. Add in the Nutella and mix through. Although messy, it's easiest to get your hands into it to mix it up. That way you can really blend in the Nutella, rather than pushing around blobs of Nutella. I've also considered melting the Nutella a lil so it's runnier and easier to mix in. However, I have not yet tried this.
4. Roll the mixture into little balls and then cover with coconut.
5. Leave them in the fridge to solidify for about an hour.

I'll add my own pictures once I've presented them all nice and pretty-like for tomorrow. I can't believe it's Christmas already!

Merry Christmas! xoxo

Christmas Dress

Christmas is fast approaching - too fast! I've be wondering what to wear, but have since found the perfect dress :) It blossoms out beautifully at the bottom, which I love.

PeaceAngel dress from Tree of Life, $49.95

Can it get much more Christmassy than that? :) Which is great for me - I have four Christmas celebrations coming up! It's going to be very busy over the Christmas period.

Run Wild Horses

Yep, we did venture off to the Healesville Twilight market, despite the terrible weather and un-summery cold. We got there nice and early and had wander about the market before it became too hectic.

Mr. Boyfriend managed to gather an unexpected Christmas present for his father - a combination of jams, chutneys and sauces. I was carefully keeping an eye out for my own mum, but couldn't find anything. I did walk away from a lovely stall with so many delightful tid-bits with the above headband in hand. It's simply gorgeous and I can't wait to wear it on Christmas day :)

I was also eying off a steampunk-inspired clock necklace (and many others!) as well. A definite feast for the eyes! If you're interested in browsing their goodies yourself (which I highly recommend) check out their store at: Run Wild Horses

Enjoy!

When it rains, it pours

So, finally - a Healesville Market that is not cancelled! But take a look at the stormy clouds a-brewing outside! Pack ya brollies, lovies!

Christmas sparkle

How's everyone's Christmas shopping going? I'm quietly satisfied with myself, having finished most of it before Christmas Eve (a first for me!).

I picked up this gorgeous plate the other day from a local antique shop for $45. Bit steep, but it caught my eye. I'm going to top it with choc ginger slice for my boyfriend's parents. Hopefully it'll go down a treat! :)

Adding to the Chrissy Wishlist

Dear Santa,

Is it too late to update my Christmas list? Coz I've just found these, and I think I'm in love (again!).

Love you,

Frivolous xoxo

Floral cardi

Who doesn't love a good cardi? I've been spying foral cardigans here, there and everywhere in blogs and magazines, but never found any cute ones that I liked in stores. Until I came across this one.

Floral cardigan from Jeanswest, AU$49.99

Surprisingly, I found this one in Jeanswest. It was just waving to me as I walked on by whilst Christmas shopping. Tried it on and it suits me perfectly. I couldn't be happier!

Curtain

Just taking another glimpse at my favourite 100 Layer Cake blog, and spotted these lovely curtains. I love the colours used and the magic of it all. They perhaps look a little lost in the hugeness of the space used in the wedding. I'm trying to imagine them in a lounge room or bedroom. I imagine they'd look quite pretty :)

Market goodies!

I hadn't been to a decent market since the winter market break. And I'm suffering serious withdrawals. I was so disappointed come the start of December with the Healesville Market cancelled again this month as a result of the flooding (which cancelled the Novemeber market!). However, the wonderful Warrandyte Market stepped up to the plate and I'm so glad it did.

It was the first time I'd gone to a market on my lonesome. Usually it's a family affair with my mum, grandma and Mum's sister. It was quite refreshing to flit about to the stalls that attracted me, rather than hunting for everyone in the crowd or pouring over plants (as much as I like plants, I have no garden of my own so they are no fun!).

This is what I returned home with:

Teapot - $10, From a lovely stall of antique goodies to add to my (slowly growing)teapot collection! Apparently it's usable! haha

Necklace - $15, image of a Marie Antoinette fairy. This stall, 'Minc', had beautiful necklaces, brooches and hair clips at great prices. I wish I'd added some of her Alice in Wonderland hair clips to my bag!

Earrings - $9, gorgeous little blue and white ceramic owl earrings. I seem to have a thing for owls lately.

Next market: Healesville Twilight market is on this Saturday (18 December) at the Healesville racecourse, 3pm- 8pm.

Dress like Modern Marie Antoinette

And so I've become obsessed with Marie Antoinette. Quite easy to do, with her amazing life story and gorgeous and dazzling fashions. I've been obsessing over her fashions particularly after coming across Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006). Such beautiful colours and dainty decorations. So, how can you imitate Marie's stunning style?

Skin
Marie Antoinette was famous for her beautiful glowing porcelain skin. Queens were often showered with compliments from those at court and this Queen was consistently and constantly complimented on her pale skin, delicate neck and hands. To replicate this you're going to have to moisturise up, baby! Water is also a god to clear and perfect skin. Add in some sunscreen for those sunny days and you should be well on your way :)

Make-up
You can further your pale Marie Antoinette complexion with a pale foundation base.

Add some warm pink candy rouge to the apples of your cheeks - women in the French court would cake on thick pots of red rouge on their cheeks as a symbol of their wealth. Many visitors to Versailles thought it was an awful fashion, so you mightn't feel the need to go all out on the rouge as they did back then!

A modern Marie Antoinette would most definitely play around with whatever make-up was available to her. Think false eyelashes, funky coloured mascara and jeweled eyeliners. Don't go too overboard- we don't want to look like Du Barry!

Use a lip stain instead of lip gloss or lipstick - we can't go losing our lips while we're eating our cake and sipping our champagne, can we dearies?

Hair
To disguise her ghastly high forehead (as it was thought, back in the day!), hairdresses pulled her hair up higher and higher. To get this height, try smashing your hair into a messy up do. Curling your hair beforehand, teasing it and hair spray will give you extra height without the need for a wig.

And/or, decorate your hair. Find pretty clips, fake flowers, head-bands, feathers, ribbons, birds, butterflies... anything that catches your eye and add them to your hair. Don't be afraid to grab these pretties from the Little Girl's section :)

Clothing
Colours: If you're wanting to imitate Sophia Coppola's Marie, stick to pastels. The colour palette of a simple box of macaroons intended to guide the colours used in the film. So stick to pale pinks, lavender, soft sky blues, buttercup yellows, mint green and lacey white. The deep reds, lush purples and blacks were reserved for Du Barry, the lady who 'is said to give pleasure to the King (Louis XV)'.

Style: You may wish to imitate the corsets and structured dresses through more fitted, almost 1950s style dresses that support the bosom and flair at the waist. It's a flattering shape that will suit any lady. Otherwise, find delicate white dresses that allude to the chemise that Marie Antoinette made wildly popular and fashionable.

Decorations: Lace, frills, buttons, sequins, beads, floral patterns, jewels. Anything and everything with that slightly darling almost whimsical girly feeling. If it makes you squeal with delight, it's probably a good find!

Present hunting

How beautiful is that Christmas tree?? Do want.

Speaking of Christmas trees... I now have something to put under it! Yes, indeedy-do! I have (mostly) completed my Christmas shopping. I have a great gift for my wonderful boyfriend, which I'm very very excited about. I was agonising over what to get him but then suddenly pop! I had the perfect idea. A quick in-and-out trip (Thank goodness! The Christmas crowds are already nuts!) and bingo, I'm all set :) Horrah!

I plan on book-browsing for everyone else (plenty great ideas up my sleeves yet!) and baking a choc-ginger slice for boyfriend's parents.

Foyle's War Fashion

Screenshot from Season 2, Episode 2 'Among the Few'. Too darling not to post! And perhaps my favourite episode so far...

So I've just finished watching Season 2, Episode 3 of Foyle's War. The episode just so happened to feature a beautiful lady more commonly known as Emily Blunt. Perfect time for those screenshots of Foyle's that I promised earlier, oui?

She is stunningly beautiful, isn't she?

You probably won't be able to see it very clearly, but I love the dress pictured above.

This is obviously only a very small small sample of the beautiful costumes and sets that can be perved on in Foyle's War. I've been trying to capture decent screenshots throughout my watching, but it appears the real beauty of the world created for this show cannot be captured in a single frame. Every little movement reveals a new beauty and it's so hard to pick exactly the right moment to turn it into a picture.

The eyes have it.

I've been seriously snooping about on blogs lately, and stumbled across this post in Do You Know April Rose . I loved this post for several reasons: (1) flowers in hair love, (2) the eye make-up and (3) those lips!

Isn't the make-up divine? Of course the model is blessed with beautiful big eyes and plump, berry-kissed lips. I can't wait to try out this look myself :)

Delicious and delightful!

I have returned home from what was the most wonderful little holiday with my boyfriend. We traveled along the Great Ocean Road and stopped at Apollo Bay. The scenery is just beautiful: the rolling green hills of the Otways behind a small town with beautiful stretching beaches.

The lush green hills and the Great Ocean Road (towards Lorne).

Apollo Bay pier and township. And seaweed.

Our holiday mainly centered around food. Ice cream featured high on the agenda; especially when The Icecream Tub has won sooooo many awards! Eggs benedict from Cafe 153 every morning were delicious and the pub meals available at Apollo Bay Hotel won our tastebuds and tummies!

An absolutely delicious and delightful holiday! :)
